by Benjie de Ubago I was recently informed by a reliable source that the Multi-Purpose Centre was allegedly selling shares. The news sent shock waves to the system. Let’s summarize. In 2004, they called for a press conference at Parramatta Town Hall, informing us that they were planning to sell the Rooty Hill site. They […]

Marching Band bound to play at the Big Apple
They look like ordinary children romping the playgrounds. But they are far from ordinary. They have exceptional talents that parents can certainly be proud of. Many of them can play at least two musical instruments – Clarinet, Alto and Tenor Saxophone, Violin, French Horn, Trombone – you name it, they play it. They don’t just […]
Poor continue to sell Kidneys for cash
by Cecil Morella Agence France-Presse The Philippines is one of the world’s “hot spots” for human organ trafficking, said the Philippine Society of Nephrology, whose members are renal specialists. “Between 2002 and 2005, when a 10 percent cap for transplants to foreigners was supposed to have been enforced, more than 400 kidney transplants from local […]
Maj. Tom Baena clarifies eligibility to march on Anzac Day Parade
At present, two different Australia Philippines Services League (APSL) exist causing some confusion among retired military personnel in Australia. One is the group led by retired Philippine Air Force Col. Cresencio Pilao while the other is headed by retired Philippine Navy Commander and Vietnam War Veteran Ricardo Palenzuela.
Feedback on the Feast of Santo Niño
Thank you for the generous coverage of the Feast of Santo Nino held on Sunday 20 Jan 08 at The Good Shepherd Church, Plumpton. I just want to add and clarify for the benefit of your readers and to set the record straight that at the time when we started the Fiesta, I, being the […]
Is someone behind the purchase of the MPC property in Schofields?
Is this another form of “Pinoy corruption?” Is someone behind the purchase of that new property in Schofields? Was there another sub-agent who could be a crony of the owner and the purchaser to let it go for a very good prize of (only) $1.15 million? Assuming that these MPC managers are not aware that […]
Will the MPC project ever be completed?
The way things are, the Multi-Purpose Centre project appears to be doomed to extinction. Just very recently, Pinoy TV aired on TVS 31 an interview with this writer showing some footages of the MPC in its original location in Rooty Hill. As of press time and for many months now, the property has remained for […]
A Media Release from the Filipino Chaplaincy in Chatswood
Through concerted efforts of concerned people including his family, Staff Cadet Joel Cabides has been granted permanent residency. Prime Minister John Howard and related cabinet members have facilitated the process so that even the parents and siblings of Joel have received permanent residence.
A reader’s opinion about the Cabides case
In response to the column where Joel Cabides was featured in your November 2007 issue, I am a bit concerned that the case hasn’t been responded by the Immigration minister. I am glad that there are some concerned Filipino Australians who wrote a letter to Mr. Nelson.
$1,000 per annum to MPC
Since 1990, I have been contributing at least $1,000 every year to the Multi-Purpose Centre with the hope that it would be completed someday. No receipts were ever issued to me but my records are complete because I have been issuing cheques payable to the Philippine Australian Community Foundation, Inc.
Government acted on Cabides request for permanent residence
This is an update on your update on Joel Cabides. Contrary to your claims in the article, the previous Government did act on Joel Cabides’ family request for permanent residency. The Filipino Chaplaincy- Chatswood Parish in consultation with the family embarked on a petition-signature campaign on Joel’s behalf last August 2007.
Has the migration status of the Cabides family really been resolved?
From the very start of their ordeal, Philippine Tribune has been very supportive to the Cabides family. Young Joel Cabides, an exchange student from the Philippines, suffered irreversible damage to his spine when asked to play in a supervised game of basketball inside the Royal Military College in Duntroon. The accident happened in January 2007. […]
