Concupiscence and the vow of celibacy
Being a layperson, this is not an easy topic for me to discuss. I know too that some members of the clergy may raise their eyebrows when they come to read this article. My only claim to having the ability to write about concupiscence and the vow of celibacy are several years of training in […]
The defiant vice president of PCC-NSW
There is a Tagalog term — “kapit-tukô.” Tukô is a type of lizard that has a very tight grip on whatever it grabs. The term became popularly used to describe certain people who would hang on to a position come what may and regardless of the consequences or repercussions it may have on his person […]
Typhoon Haiyan: Harbinger of things to come by Cecilia Gaerlan
When I left the Philippines for the United States in 1978, life in the land of my birth was like a page out of a Dickens’ novel, A Tale of Two Cities. Outside the fortified walls where the elite live were shanty towns where the poor and the disenfranchised eked out a living scrounging through […]

Multi-Purpose Centre in Schofields
Conflict in PCC-NSW
The changing of the guard in PCC, from Atoy Sayas to Elsa Collado, has apparently caused disunity in the board of the Philippine Community Council of NSW. While Sayas handed over the presidency to Collado on a silver platter when he opted not to contest the top post for the sake of peace and harmony, […]
