FIFTEEN finalists faced judges in a lavish pageant at University of New South Wales’s The Roundhouse Theatre on Thursday night, October 7, for the crowning of Miss Earth Australia 2010.
Judges picked the candidate with the best grasp of environmental issues and the best public speaking skills, according to Filipina quest founder Maria James. ”That’s because our Miss Earth Australia 2010 will be our country’s official ‘Environmental Ambassador’ at the Miss Earth International finals pageant in Vietnam in December.
”This international pageant will be watched by an estimated television audience around the world of 80 million viewers.”
The Sydney pageant became an extravaganza that rivals the best in the world, the highlight being an entertainingly choreographed song-and-dance [number] by the finalists.
”Welcome to the next generation of beauty pageants in which the wellbeing of the environment is nurtured by attractive and dynamic Australian women,” Ms James said.
”Miss Earth Australia is our only national beauty pageant that simultaneously promotes young women and environmental issues. It is part of an international movement with organisations in more than 100 countries.” – ?
