New Health Services begin

Federal Member for Chifley, Roger Price, has welcomed the introduction of the Rudd Government’s new health services available to families which began on 1st July 2008, the first day of the Financial Year.

“Local Chifley residents will be able to give their children better access to the basic care needed to maintain their health and wellbeing,” Mr. Price said.

“Children and young adults will especially benefit from these services which include dental checks for teenagers and check-ups for children about to begin school.”

Items that are now available include:

  • $150 for preventative dental checks for teenagers under Medicare;
  • Free Healthy Kids Check for kids about to start school;
  • Get Set 4 Life guide – to help kids develop healthy habits for life;
  • New Medicare items for children with autism;
  • New Medicare items to help people at high risk of diabetes;
  • New medicines on the PBS for people who suffer from multiple sclerosis, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer disease and for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community who are at risk from psoriasis of the scalp.

“The Teen Dental Plan is a key initiative that will assist over one million teenagers between 12 and 17 to receive up to $150 towards the cost of their annual dental preventive checks.”

“Local families within our community and especially those with children will be able to take immediate advantage of these new services” Mr. Price said.
