The Filipino Australian Movement for Empowerment (FAME, Inc.) recently ratified its constitution and proceeded to elect its first set of directors.
In keeping with the call for austerity measures brought about by the current world’s financial crunch, a simple, yet meaningful FAME Inc. induction ceremony was held recently in a house backyard.
Elected were Cesar Bartolome, (State Director), Art Bacalla (Asst. Executive Director), Rod Dingle (State Secretary), David Isaac (State Treasurer), Dennis Laxamana (State Auditor), Ross Iglesia (State PR Director). Other Directors include: Ferdi Francisco, Manuel Roux, and Josefina Musa. Bobby Lastica was appointed Administrator and Public Officer of the group.
Some of the team members who were part of the interim group have remained on board. Their passion stirred FAME on its course of empowerment for Filipinos.
The newly-elected Directors recently paid a courtesy call on Consul General, Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, who will be departing for Switzerland soon. At this diplomatic posting, Consul General Lazaro moves on as Ambassador.
The FAME officers presented a parting gift to the Consul General “It was FAME’s way of thanking her for providing the initial impetus to the Movement and to congratulate her on her well-deserved promotion” said Cesar Bartolome, the newly-elected Executive Director.
“FAME, as a Movement has been successful in pushing the long road to empowerment of Filipino-Australians to become active participants of mainstream Australia,” said Lazaro.
“I wish that the Movement will continue to gain strength in the years to come in its quest to map the hopes and aspirations of Filipino-Australians. Further, I hope that FAME will be able to tap other members of the community and develop them as future and effective Filipino-Australian leaders,” she added.
FAME is a non-partisan group that hopes to push Filipinos to the forefront. It is a lobby and advocacy group which aims to encourage Filipino Australians to actively participate in the social, educational, professional, economic and most of all, in the political arena of mainstream Australia.
