Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic has congratulated his predecessor Roger Price on his appointment as Australia’s next Consul General in Chicago. Acting Foreign Affairs Minister, Craig Emerson yesterday announced that the former Member for Chifley would take up his new posting on November 2011.

The Australian Consulate General in Chicago supports Australian business in identifying and developing trade and investment opportunities in the important Midwest region of the United States.

It is active in expanding economic ties and developing partnerships in a broad array of areas, including the automotive industry, energy, climate change technologies, research and development, education and innovation, and financial services.

Mr Husic said, “Local residents know only too well, the service that Roger has provided to the people of Chifley over 26 years.”

“As someone who has known and worked with Roger, I know the energy and drive he will bring to this role and he will be a tremendous representative for our country.”

“He served in the Australian Parliament in a number of capacities, including as a member and Chair of the Joint Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee and as a permanent member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.”

Mr Price also served as Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Bob Hawke and later as Parliamentary Secretary for Defence.
