Philippine Airlines (PAL) may soon change hands. According to reports, Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP) will buy PAL once its labor problems are settled. Philippine Daily Inquirer reported that Pangilinan has already agreed in principle to buy the Philippines’ flag carrier from Lucio Tan.
A source who requested not to be identified said that Manny Pangilinan will be the new owner of Philippine Airlines soon. The same source revealed that MVP has had his eyes on Asia’s first airline for quite some time. He, however, stressed that MVP will only buy PAL once its current labor dispute is over.
PAL was recently given the go-ahead to outsource the airline’s in-flight catering, ground services and call-center reservation operations. However, Philippine Airlines Employees Association (PALEA), has challenged this move in court. PALEA has asked the Court of Appeals to stop the flag carrier from implementing its outsourcing program, which passed the review of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Office of the President.
