CEBU CITY. December 18 — Police said an Australian national shot and killed his Filipina girlfriend, a noted fashion designer in Cebu, before turning the gun on himself late Saturday evening.
Investigators said Joy Bernaldez, 52, was shot in the head by her Australian boyfriend Joseph Cardona, 53, Saturday evening in her home in Cabangcalan village in Mandaue City.
Cardona was found dead in the garage. Police theorized the Australian national shot himself in the mouth with the same hand gun he used to kill Bernaldez.
Police found a .22-caliber pistol at the crime scene. Investigation showed the couple had violent quarrels over the past days. Bernaldez owned J. Bern’s Exclusives, a company selling clothes and shoes in Cebu City. www.joybernaldez.com
