Philippine Sports Commissioner (PSC) Joaquin “Chito” Loyzaga resigned from PSC to look after his ailing father, basketball great Carlos “Caloy” Loyzaga. He is now in Gold Coast, Queensland.
The young Loyzaga sent his letter of resignation to President Noynoy Aquino a day after he left. He said he wanted to help his mother attend to the needs of the 82-year-old patriarch, who once played for San Beda College and later became a professional player in the MICAA. The basketball great played in NCAA, Asian Games, and was head coach of the Philippine Team during the Olympic Games in 1968.
He is also the father of movie stars Bing Loyzaga and Teresa Loyzaga. During his early years in Australia, Caloy was employed with Nestle.
Caloy suffered a major stroke last year.
