Post-Valentine Concert draws big crowd by Carolyn Manaloto

The Blacktown City Community Band, under the baton of Maestro Jun Javier held its post-valentine concert on 21st February 2009 at Mount Druitt Workers Club (MWC). Over 200 guests came to support the fund raising night.  The affair was enhanced by the presence of Blacktown City Mayor Charlie Lowles, MWC Treasurer Tony Bleasdale and his wife Nino, and the newly-elected PCC-NSW president Ronaldo Villaver. Other officials from different Filipino organizations were also present. Concert director was Jinji Javier.

 

These 19 young talented musicians, whose ages range from 8 to 17, are students of the Jun Javier Music School in Glendenning. They gave their best performance to the delight of the audience, especially their parents and friends.  They played a wide variety of musical pieces such as  Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, Mama Mia, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mission Impossible and Phantom of the Opera.

 

Some of the children performed special numbers using their favourite musical instruments. Katrina Saludes in her clarinet played “Clarinet Polka”, Bobby Harrison, who is currently a semi-finalist in Channel 7’s Australia Got Talent, did a trumpet solo. He also sang ‘Ikaw Pa Rin” with his dad, Bob. Jicko Manaloto, who also plays the trumpet, sang “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” Joanna Eden who is versatile in flute played ‘My Heart Will Go On.”

 

Other performers were Alex Agaciak, James Eden, Clarence Fiala, Ian Manaloto, John Delos Reyes, Sophie de Silva, Joanna Eden, Gelli Buhat, Jeffrey Estrella, Bernadette Marquez, and Katrina Saludes. Maestro Jun Javier himself played ‘Forever in Love’, using his soprano saxophone. Benjamin Marquez played his favourite instrument, the Alto Saxophone.

 

The next concert, being organized by Bob & Bernadette Harrison, will be held in Wollongong on Saturday, 7th March 2009 at the Illawara Master Builders Club. These fund raising concerts are being held to provide financial support for the scheduled performance of the BCCB in different parts of the United States this coming December through January 2009. Many Filipino community organisations in America have already booked various venues for their performance.
