The Member for Riverstone, John Aquilina MP, has welcomed the extra investment in public education through the Principals Priority Building Program.
“With three public schools in Riverstone and six public schools in Hawkesbury to benefit, this is great news for our local community,” Mr Aquilina added.
In Riverstone,
In the Hawkesbury,
“Local school communities have been working hard, lobbying the Education Minister for these works to be undertaken,” he said.
“The Government has been listening to the community and as a result funding is now being allocated to improve the facilities at our schools.
The Premier of NSW, Nathan Rees MP, said the Principals Priority Building Program is an initiative to solve ongoing maintenance problems at over 650 NSW public schools.
“Principals have told us what needs to be fixed to rectify the maintenance issues, so they don’t have to keep getting tradespeople in,” said Mr Rees.
“The Principals Priority Building Program brings the total expenditure by my government on school maintenance and capital works to over $1 billion in 2008-09.
“This is a massive investment in schools and the future of our children.”
Mr Aquilina said that the $150 million Principals Priority Building Program was provided for in November’s mini-budget and is in addition to the $14.7 billion investment in education the Rudd Government announced last week.
“Over the next two years, funding by the Rees and Rudd Governments will see an unprecedented program of major maintenance and upgrade works in schools across NSW,” he added. – ?
