Tenpin Bowling Family Challenge by Rene Opilas

The Philippines Australia Sports & Culture Inc. (PASC Inc) held a tenpin bowling family fun day on Saturday 21 February 2009 at the AMF Bowling Lanes, Blacktown. It was attended by 20 avid bowlers which represented the 5 teams that competed.  Most prominent were two teams from Ateneo Alumni Australia, who eventually took home the winner and runner-up trophies.

Other teams were from EN Sydney, PASC Inc., and Campsie WCTBA. The competition was based on team totals of 4 games, 9 pins no tap. Ateneo team 1 scored a team total of 3387 averaging 211.69 per game/player. Phil Manlangit was the most outstanding player having scored a perfect 300 in game 1, and averaged 258.25 per game.

Established more than 20 years ago, PASC, Inc. has been a fund raiser for many disabled athletes from the Philippines, in particular are those who participated in the Pacific School Games in Sydney.

According to its President Manny Castillo, “PASC has provided unlimited avenues for members of the Filipino Australian community to excel in sports, entertainment, arts, cultural and business entrepreneurship.”

PASC has received two Presidential Awards from the Republic of the Philippines. The first one was in 1991, followed by another in 2004.

Among the many projects being undertaken by PASC is the Annual Philippine Fiesta Kultura in Sydney. Last year, it was held at the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre in James Ruse Drive, Rosehill, NSW.

Filipinos in NSW are indeed grateful to PASC for actively preserving Philippine Culture and Sports in our adopted country – Australia. ?
