Woodcroft businesses benefit from broadband deal

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic has welcomed an agreement by Telstra and Centro Management to extend a new broadband connection to the Woodcroft Shopping Centre.

For over a year, Mr Husic has been highlighting the plight of small business owners in the Woodcroft area who have not had access to reliable broadband services.

He says the decision by Centro Shopping Centre to upgrade the broadband connection will benefit the whole community.

“This means that businesses and shops in the Woodcroft Shopping Centre will be able to access fast broadband services and make use of a range of new business technologies,” Mr Husic said.

“It will also benefit the whole community — like customers who buy their medication from the local pharmacy, where online access to a national database is routine.”

Importantly, it will also let businesses keep operating out of Woodcroft, which is great for jobs and our local economy.”

Mr Husic congratulated Telstra for stepping in and filling the gap until such time as the National Broadband Network is rolled out locally over 2012-13.

“NBN is coming to Woodcroft in the next year but with the help of Telstra, local residents and small business owners can enjoy faster internet speeds today.”

“I applaud Centro Shopping Centres and Telstra for negotiating this deal will be of great benefit to the Woodcroft community.”
