The Board of Trustees of the Filipino Multi-Purpose Centre (MPC) had a meeting on 14 February 2009 at the newly-acquired property in Schofields. The meeting of the Trustees coincided with a Special General Meeting supposedly attended by members of the Filipino community.
This is in accordance with the amended Trust Deed of the Philippine Australian Community Foundation, Inc. (PACFI). The Trust Deed categorically states that PACFI members are: “Filipino Members of the Church, Filipino Australians, their families or such persons as the Trustee may accept, duly baptised according to the Rite of the Holy Roman Catholic Church . . .”
It is apparent, however, that the MPC Board invited only a select few to attend the meeting. There were of course the FILCOS representatives but there appears to be no public announcement.
There were reports that the MPC Board was compelled to call the meeting because of a mandate from the Office of Fair Trading that questioned the validity of the Amendments to the Trust Deed that was lodged. It is still a mystery what amendments are being approved. They can approve amendments to PACF Constitution but (they) cannot legally amend the Trust Declaration of Fr Paras!
Fr. Paras was present during the meeting but he hardly spoke a word nor participated much in the discussions. – ?
