Help bring Tara Santelices home

Here’s one story that Ateneo alumni from all over the world should be interested in reading.

Tara Santelices has been confined at Medical City since  August 6, 2008. She was unconscious for 5 months after being shot in the forehead during a jeepney hold-up in the morning of her birthday.

As of this writing, she has recovered from her comatose state and has long been transferred from ICU. She can now breathe 100% on her own, without the aid of a respirator. Her family longs to take her home.

However, hospital authorities will not release her until her bills are paid. To date, hospital expenses have amounted to 1.8 million pesos (AUD56,250). This amount does not include the cost of medicine and doctor’s fees.

Many people have donated money. Many more have spread the word through blogs, e-mail, and text messages.

Yet more money is needed. Apparently, prayers are not enough. Concrete action is needed. What can we do?

1) Make a donation. Any amount will do. Send the money to Tara‘s mother, Anne Santelices. Please call Philippine Tribune for her address and telephone number.

2) Find ways how your organization can raise funds through its current projects.

3) Spread the word and ask everyone else to spread the word. Share Tara‘s story and her family’s need for financial help. Just keep spreading the word and it’s bound to reach people who can actually donate or organize fund-raising events

It is only by reaching out to a larger community that we can actually hope to achieve something for Tara Santelices. Incidentally, she’s a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University belonging to batch 2007. – ?
