In the past, I have used “Nostradino” as my nom de plume when I wrote predictions of certain future events. Some forecasts I made turned out to be accurate; others miserably failed. Of course, it was just for fun and the name I chose relates to my fascination with the famous Nostradamus.
This time, I dare talk about something serious. It is not my intention to be a prophet of doom. However, the topic is all over the internet. The Mayan Calendar is very precise in predicting that the end of the world will happen on 21 December 2012. That’s barely 12 weeks away from this month of October. That is how many people view the Mayan Calendar which finishes on that date.
“One theory suggests a galactic alignment which would create chaos on Earth because of the gravitational effect between the Sun and the Black hole called Sagittarius A, which is located at the center of our galaxy.” (www.timeanddate.com)
Jeremiah 25:27-38 in the Bible refers to Armageddon being the End of the World.
On top of what we read in the internet, there have been many events happening in many parts of the world that could be construed as signs that the end is indeed forthcoming. We have experienced natural disasters like earthquakes that trigger tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, huge tornadoes and flash floods that have killed several thousands. Almost regularly, we view on television civil unrest and bloody revolutions against dictators; the rise and fall of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, Libya’s Muammar Gadaffi, not to mention ancient Rome’s Caligula.
I have viewed a not-so-old movie entitled “2012.” It is about the end of the world. The events depicted are so scary that I’d rather leave it to our readers to look for a DVD copy, instead of me trying to describe the scenes. However, in watching the movie, just be reminded that it is fiction, not a documentary but could very well be a peek into the worst that may never come.
What can we do at this time if the predicted end is indeed forthcoming? I’d say nothing — absolutely nothing but prepare our souls for the next life at least for those among us who believe that there is a God, that there is an afterlife. To believers of Islam, I hope you meet your 7 virgins in heaven. For the atheists, agnostics and non-believers — welcome to oblivion!
