A mother who brutally beat her two-year-old daughter and glued her hands to a wall has been sentenced to 99 years in prison — more than double the 45-year sentence prosecutors sought.
Dallas mother Elizabeth Escalona, 23, pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child in July but her mother and sister had asked the court for leniency.
Judge Larry Mitchell said Escalona “savagely beat” her child “to the edge of death” and had to be punished.
The young mother broke down upon hearing the sentence. The court heard that Escalona kicked her daughter Jocelyn in the stomach, attacked her with a milk jug and used Super Glue to stick her hands to a wall after losing her temper while trying to potty train her.
The toddler was in a coma for a couple of days after the attack, in which she suffered bleeding in the brain, a fractured rib as well as bruises and bites.
Prosecutors said the 23-year-old was a bad mother with a history of violent behaviour and was a former gang member.
Escalona said she deeply regretted her actions and said she would never forgive herself for what she had done to her daughter.
The toddler has since recovered from her injuries and is now living with her grandmother. Source: FOX News
