MANILA, Philippines — Alex Compton, who won Most Valuable Player awards while playing for Philippine Basketball League, is a strong candidate to replace Norman Black as head coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
The 38-year-old American who was born in the Philippines, is being considered to be Ateneo’s new coach starting next year. Black left Ateneo after winning five consecutive titles in eight years on the job, and moved on to become the head coach of Talk N Text in the PBA.
Norman Black was offered the job by Manny Pangilinan, himself an Ateneo alumnus. Pangilinan withdrew support for the Ateneo over the Philex Mining dispute.
