Migrante (The Filipino Diaspora) will screen in Sydney – on March 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17. It is a film that explores the dreams, the disturbing tales of maltreatment and exploitation, the reasons why Filipinos are forced to work abroad and the impact to family relationships of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). It also highlights the role of Migrante International, an organisation that assists Filipino migrant workers and their families, in the real world.
The film stars award winning actor Allen Dizon and the very popular television drama actress Jodi Sta Maria. They breathe life into the main characters who portray different aspects of the lives of 10 million OFWs in over 100 countries around the world. Filipino OFWs contribute at least US$12 billion a year to Philippines’ economy through their remittances yet the Philippine government continue to let them down.
The film will be shown in the following places – in Central Coast on March 10, Sydney on 14 March, Blacktown and Rooty Hill on 15 March, Marrickville on 16 March and Hornsby/North Shore on 17 March. Tickets cost $10 each for adults, $5 for child and $25 for family of two parents and kids. The film has English subtitles. Tickets are available at the door but it is recommended that you purchase ticket beforehand (see attached poster for details).
The film’s scriptwriter Boni Ilagan will be at all the showings for interview but by appointment.
