Mayor exhorts more active participation of Filipinos in council activities

In a speech he delivered during the 20th Annual General Meeting of the Philippine Australia Community Services Inc. (PACSI), Blacktown City Mayor Charlie Lowles encouraged more active participation of Filipinos in the activities of Blacktown City Council.

He said: “Blacktown City boasts a Filipino population of more than 25,000 people. It is the largest of our multicultural groups in the city and it is most encouraging to see you all here to further the aims of PACSI and to participate in the Annual General Meeting.”

He added: “Over the past 20 years, this organisation has provided enormous assistance to many thousands of Filipinos who have come to live in this great city. It is most heartening to see the organisation grow and looking at ways in which it can continue to be involved and indeed how it can work with the Council.”

The mayor recognised that the Filipino community continues to make huge contributions to Blacktown City. He said that many are already actively engaged in a variety of business enterprises not only in Blacktown but in many other parts of Sydney.

Mayor Lowles said that he was very much interested to see the development of new trade opportunities and increased tourism between Australia and the Philippines.

In closing, the mayor expressed appreciation over PACSI’s proactive approach to achieve positive results for all members of the Blacktown community. – ?
