Beware of a roving van marked “Courier” that is selling 3D Imaging Digital Movie Cameras. The Asian looking driver stops to ask for directions and then casually asks any unwary person if he/she is interested in buying a movie camera. The driver claims that he had an excess supply of brand new units he is unable to deliver because of incomplete address. The driver proceeds to show and open the box containing the brand new camcorder complete with accessories — tripod, camera case, SD card, video and power cables, batteries, including 3D glasses.
He then shows the prospective buyer an invoice to prove that each unit is worth $1,900 but is willing to dispose of each unit for only $500. Haggling takes place and the driver finally agrees to any price offer. According to one reader who reported the incident to Philippine Sentinel, the driver agreed to sell one unit for only $100.
To his dismay, the unsuspecting buyer discovered when he returned home that the camcorder was crap. It worked only for a few minutes and the battery went flat. After re-charging the battery for over 10 hours, the same thing happened. It worked for less than 5 minutes.
Everything looks very authentic. The box is even marked “Engineered in the USA” with a mini American flag.
