Cafe Mix at Sydney’s Shangri-La Hotel will be home to a festival of Filipino
food as part of The Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Month in October.
Attracting over 1,400 diners in 2012 and now an exciting annual event, Flavours of the Philippines 2013 will showcase the rich, tropical dishes of this unique cuisine that’s unlike anything else in South-East Asia with its Spanish, Malay, Chinese and American influences.
Three (3) guest chefs from Makati Shangri-La, Manila will be coming to Sydney to create a lavish buffet-style spread of authentic Filipino fare.
Classic dishes such as kare-kare (oxtail stew in a rich peanut sauce), pork
sisig (a punchy, vinegar-spiked appetiser) and chicken inasal (marinated chicken grilled over hot coals) will feature among the fiesta fare. For those with a sweet tooth, a dizzying array of desserts will be on offer, alongside a native nipa stall serving halo-halo – the popular Filipino dessert of shaved ice with condensed milk and a colourful mix of sweet beans and fruits.
Flavours of the Philippines is hosted by the Philippine Department of Tourism and Shangri-la Hotel Sydney which runs from October 1-15,2013 with daily lunch and dinner sessions. Tickets are available for the lunch buffet at $49, or $75 for the dinner session, which runs from 6pm to 10pm.
To book, contact the Shangri-La at (02) 9250 6206 or email dine.slsn@shangri-la.com.
