Following the competitive soccer trials held at Fiesta Kultura, the Azkalroos Seniors team are set to take on the NSW Nepalese All Stars in an all Asian showdown at 5 Sports Complex in Caringbah on Sunday November 17, 2013.
Former Azkal International Leigh Gunn expects a tough game. “The Nepalese community are serious football fans and their players will give us a great test. Our players can’t wait to represent the Filipino Australian community.”
Coaching Director Andrew Fletcher is thrilled with the match up. He said: “We are grateful to the Australian Nepalese Football Association for agreeing to play us and we look forward to showcasing the growing talent in the community.”
Prior to the Senior Men’s game, the Azkalroos will host specialised coaching and junior games for some of the young talents that participated in the football trials at Fiesta Kultura.
The Azkalroos vs Nepalese All-Stars event is the first of a series of games with teams of other communities leading to the AFC Asian Cup 2015. All games will be held in Australia to boost Asian Australian football.
The AFC Asian Cup 2015 is expected to be the biggest Australian sporting event since the Sydney Olympics.
The Azkals will have the chance to play in the Asian Cup should they win the 8 team AFC Challenge Cup to be held in the Maldives on May 2014.
Those showing potential in the Azkalroos team will be offered trials in Manila in front of the Azkals selectors and United Football League Clubs.
The Azkalroos vs Nepalese All-stars game is proudly supported by the 5 Sports Caringbah, Team Rhino, Western Sydney Wanderers, Red Elephant Projects and the AFC Asian Cup 2015.
