Businessman and Labor Party member Neil Galang was driven out of Blacktown City Council Chambers during a session held on the evening of 17 June 2009. According to Mr. Galang, he has been quite regular in attending council sessions over the past many years but this is the first time it happened. He said he was quietly seated listening to the deliberations and could not find any valid reason why he was asked to leave. Galang added that he felt humiliated and discriminated.
He alleged having seen Cr. Leo Kelly confer with Cr. Julie Griffith who in turn talked to Security Officer Richard, after which he was asked to leave the chamber. When asked for comment about the incident, Mayor Charlie Lowles denied any knowledge of what happened. The mayor added that he is the only person authorised to expel anyone from the chamber. Council sessions have always been open for any member of the general public who wishes to attend.
Cr. Leo Kelly and Cr. Griffith were not available for comment.
