As part of the celebration of Ms Neria Soliman’s 25th year milestone as a food writer, launching of her latest book, Magayon, A Taste of Bicol was held with friends and relatives in Melbourne.
Book launching venues were Quiapo Australasia Distributor shop in 168 Churchill Avenue Braybook Victoria and in Rye Ocean Beach which is only 2 hours away from the Melbourne Commercial Business District. The Magayon books are now available at both outlets.
The event was highlighted by an interview conducted by the Multicultural Broadcasting Network anchor Chito Javier about her latest books — The Chef’s Best Mate, Magayon, A Taste of Bicol, and A touch of Class. The latter does not only feature Bicol recipes but also people from the Bicol region who have made a difference in their lives to became the pride of Bicolandia.
Why the name MAGAYON?
The word ‘Magayon‘ means beautiful! Ms Soliman says her inspiration in writing the book is Mayon Volcano, hence the title — Magayon, a taste of Bicol. From its original name ‘magayon,’ this exotic and perfect cone volcano was later called MAYUNG then MAYON. It is located in the Province of Albay Philippines.
