Reynor Manalad was merely trying to stop a fight at a house party in Rooty Hill but his alleged attacker, Hugh Garth instead turned on him and gave him a single punch on his face.
Only 21 years old, Manalad was a fresh nursing graduate from the Australian Catholic University. According to his teary-eyed uncle, the newly-registered nurse has always been very helpful in his attempt to make life better for other people. He tried to intervene in a fight between Garth and his girlfriend when he was given a sharp blow on his face. He was knocked down unconscious and died in hospital the following day.
Garth was charged with grievous bodily harm at Blacktown Court. Under new laws introduced in January, anyone who fatally punches someone while intoxicated will receive a minimum eight-year jail term.
The 21-year old Garth was refused bail and will remain in jail until his next court appearance in July.
