The Philippines said that Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea could lead to war. General Catapang, from the Philippine Army, said China’s construction work was causing concern “not only because it would deter freedom of navigation, but also due to its possibility of military purposes.”
China has built an airstrip on Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly Islands without consulting the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan who all claim the region.
