Nick Meissner was a popular Filipino community leader who was not even a Filipino — he was Hungarian.
Yet he spoke Filipino, religiously watched the afterhours Pinoy teleserye. He played Philippine music on his old harmonica.
Nick, who was 77 years old, served actively in many community organisations including APCO Inc, where he was a founding director of the Kapit-bahayan Coop Ltd. He was a tenant-member and the maintenance officer of the Merrylands cooperative housing cluster.
Nick passed away on 10 September. It was reported that he [accidentally] fell from a ladder while doing a paint job.
He is survived by his wife Dory who operates a Beauty Salon in Lidcombe.
Nick was interned at St Marys Cemetery beside his beloved mum last 15 September after a public viewing the night before in Granville Sympathy Funerals.
Members of several community organisations donated food and organised bereavement-related activities that are traditionally done in the Philippines.
