━ Two hundred Lions from Sydney’s 75 Lions Clubs attended their annual District Convention in the West Tradies Club.
Lions’ District Governor Derek Margerison said it was the largest gathering of Lions in the Blacktown Council area. He said the Lions received a great deal of support from the Blacktown Council in making the Convention possible.
Margerison said the District covered the area from the Hawkesbury River to Holroyd and from the Ocean to Emu Plains. The District also includes two Clubs on Norfolk Island.
A highlight of the Convention was a welcome to the newly-chartered Autism Community Lions Club. Mr Margerison said the new Club is the first of its kind in Australia
The Convention received reports on a wide range of projects and activities. The reports included the Mt Druitt deaf camp for high school students with hearing difficulties, Childhood Cancer Research, Children’s Mobility Foundation and programs to combat diabetes.
Margerison said Lions are more than sausage sizzles which are simply a means to an end such as the projects mentioned above.
