Having lost his appeal which was dismissed by the Supreme Court on 27 November 2007, Sef Gonzales is doomed to die in jail. He appears to have finally accepted his fate and seems to have lost interest in further appealing his case with the High Court. No action on the part his defence counsel has so far been heard since the decision of the Supreme Court was made.
Former Sydney student Sef Gonzales has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the triple murder of his parents, solicitor Ted Gonzales, Mary Loiva Gonzales and then 18-year old sister Clodine in their North Ryde home in Sydney’s north-west on July 10, 2001.
Justice Bruce James sentenced the 24-year-old student to three concurrent life sentences for the brutal slayings. “I consider that the murders showed features of very great heinousness…,” he said.
Surviving family members wept as the sentence was delivered but Gonzales showed very little emotion.
During sentencing Justice James said the murders were “premeditated” with Gonzales firstly killing his sister by strangling, stabbing and bashing her with a baseball bat, and then stabbing each of his parents as they arrived home from work.
He said Gonzales was not suffering from any mental illness at the time, had shown no remorse and had committed the murders only to stop his parents withdrawing his privileges and to obtain their $1.5 million estate. The property was eventually sold for only $720,000.00.
