Never before has such an event happened in Australia. Thanks to the fertile mind of incumbent Ateneo Alumni Australia President Miguel “Mike” Alvarez, the event will take place in Sydney on October 25-27, 2019. It is in fact a first in the history of the Ateneo Alumni Association of Australia which was organised by a small group of Jesuit-bred Ateneans in the mid-90s.
After graduating from high school at the Ateneo de Naga University, Mr. Alvarez took up Business Administration major in Accounting at the University of the East. He passed the CPA Board Exam thereafter and completed his MBA at the De la Salle University.
Law Degree
His hunger for further knowledge led him to study law. In no time at all, he obtained his Testamur as a ‘Juris Doctor’ from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and was recently authorised by the Supreme Court to practice law in Australia.
He is now an Associate at the law offices of Linda Geronimo and Associates, Parramatta and Blacktown NSW.
Also a Certified Practising Accountant and a Registered Tax Agent, Mr. Alvarez manages his own Accounting and Tax Practice in Blacktown.
Mike has long been involved with Filipino organisations in Sydney. In 2016, he was Finance Manager of the Philippine Pasko Festival Organising Committee under the auspices of the Philippine Consulate General Sydney Office, the Sydney Offices of Philippine Tourism and Trade and the Philippine Community Council, NSW Inc.
He is currently the President of the Ateneo Alumni Association in Australia, a community organisation based in Sydney. One of the many projects that Mike is spearheading is the 2019 Ateneo Alumni International Convention to be held in Sydney on October 25-27, 2019. He and his wife just returned from the United States where they attended the All-Ateneo Alumni Convention held in San Diego, California last October.
Mike is happily married with two daughters and one son and six grandsons.
