Blacktown City Council announced Julie Nunez as the 2010 Blacktown City Woman of the Year. The announcement was made during the International Women’s Day Breakfast at Blacktown City council on 8 March 2010.
Julie is a very active member of the community. She is the current President of the Philippine Australian Community Service Inc. (PACSI). She has been involved with PACSI for many years as an active volunteer, a resource speaker and a bilingual community educator. Ms. Nunez is also a member of the Board of Directors and treasurer of the Philippine Health Care Association Australia, the treasurer of the Ateneo Alumni Association of Australia and founder of the Chavacano Association of Australia.
The Woman of the Year award provides an opportunity for the local community to highlight and acknowledge the impact women make to society. This year’s theme focused on acknowledging the contribution of women to local government, either through paid or voluntary work.
Julie holds a PhD in Education and an MA in Social Science obtained from the Ohio University, USA. She holds an AB & BSE from the Ateneo de Zamboanga where she obtained Summa Cum Laude honors.
