There are at least 2 different Filipino groups that are planning to celebrate the Philippine Independence Day on June 12 this year.
One such group (APCO) promises a lavish 8-course meal, dancing and entertainment and will charge a reasonable $45 entrance fee. The venue is at Maxim’s Function Centre in Bankstown, NSW.
The invitation indicated that state and federal dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion. It further stated that there will be a “Filipiniana” competition for both male and female who will wear our national costume.
The other group will charge an entrance fee in the vicinity of $100, according to Mr. Alric Bulseco who is the vice president of the Philippine Community Council of NSW.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend either one because of a very important family affair which coincides with the same date. For one thing, Bankstown is a bit too far for me and I often get lost driving at night in an unfamiliar area. The above caricature was designed by Miss Benjie de Ubago, a regular columnist.
