Manny Pacquiao has held many titles during his glittering boxing career but after the May 10 elections in the Philippines, he successfully added a new one: Congressman.
After just a few days of vote counting, the current welterweight world champion was declared the winner in his bid for the Philippine Congressional seat in his home province of Sarangani.
The political pugilist won’t be ending his boxing career, with plans for a bout in November now in the works.
No opponent has been named, but Pacquiao’s camp says they hope to start negotiating the much-anticipated match-up with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Pacquiao won his electoral fight on a promise to help the poor in his impoverished province – and in his first comments after his election, stated he will fight as hard for them as he has in the ring.
