Former Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay was supposed to be the running mate of presidential candidate Joseph Ejercito Estrada who ranked number 2 during the past national elections in the Philippines.
The ballot he cast however, clearly showed that no vote was marked for the position of vice president.
It has been reported that Estrada was a victim of back-stabbing by people whom he regarded as his allies in the political arena.
Many of the more intelligent voters are still wondering why the deposed president was allowed by the Commission on Elections to run for the highest office in the land. Estrada was convicted of economic plunder but was pardoned by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo shortly after he was declared guilty by the Supreme Court.
In spite of his criminal conviction, “Erap,” as he was popularly known to the masses, still managed to garner the second highest number of votes.
