It was a great game, (the Ateneo – La Salle Alumni Basketball) albeit a very physical one. I think JC Cruz was able to record it from start to finish. As a team, we stood tall as we took verbal abuse from hostile fans whenever we walked past that sea of green (“Ateneo bulok“, “Ateneo basura“).
As a team we took the physical pounding. The older, more experienced La Salle team lashed upon us. As a team, we kept our composure whenever a phantom foul was called. And as a team, we kept our heads held high amidst defeat.
We all felt a great sense of pride in representing the Ateneo, an institution that always strives for the “magis“. This call to strive for “the more” was greatly evident through the support of the Australian Ateneo community. Every chant, every cheer, every blue shirt we saw from the court gave us motivation to play not just for ourselves, but for each and every person that identifies with the Ateneo. On behalf of the team, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for all the support and faith that we’ve received from the Ateneo Alumni Association of Australia.
