Blacktown City has outlived its name

“Blacktown City’s name is totally out of date and inappropriate for a progressive growing city with over 300,000 people,” Blacktown City Councillor Allan Green said.

According to him, “Prospect City would be a far better name as it is progressive in nature and reflects many aspects of the major geographical feature in our city which is Prospect Hill and Reservoir. When you travel to other places and even overseas when you tell them you are from Blacktown City, it often gets a strange reaction because of the negative connotation of the word black.”

“We recently saw Baulkham Hills Shire change its name to The Hills to keep up with the times. It is vital that Blacktown City gets a new name so its progress is not held back by unfair image problems,” Green added.

“It is of great importance to our young people so they can be freed from the negative image of “Blacktown” when they seek employment and tertiary education opportunities,” Green concluded.

We nevertheless see several Black migrants roaming Main Street in Blacktown. ?
