It was a thanksgiving with a difference! The affair was a celebration of thanks and a chance to rally the community to dig deep [into their pockets] to help a sick Overseas Contract Worker (OCW) and his family in need of financial assistance.
The Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations, Inc (APCO) had a thanksgiving dinner and dance party to celebrate and thank all those who helped in the success of the Freedom Ball last June. It was also an opportunity for APCO to appeal for financial help to assist the Concepcion family from Pampanga, Philippines whose sole breadwinner an OCW, was diagnosed with cancer.
The family’s situation was brought to our attention by the Office of MP Laurie Fergusson. A total of $500 was turned over to the Concepcion family ($365 from APCO and $135 from the office of Mr. Laurie Ferguson). Emma De Vera promised to give 50% of commissions earned by her travel agency from off-peak bookings.
Held at All Saints Catholic Church Parish Hall, Liverpool on 9 July 2010, the party was informal, cordial, fun and relaxing. Emceed by Raquel Pellero, APCO Secretary who surprised everyone with spectacular song and dance numbers, the entertainers included veteran and amateur singers, dance and instrumental performers like Cleo Baltazar, Linda Trinidad, Nick Meissner, Ruben Pasion, Paul Adams, the FBWCA Dancers and the affable and talented trio, the Gay Divas – Brian Lorenz Babon, Victor Valdez and Erwin Villaver.
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded by the APCO Board to thank the performers, emcees, and judges of the Filipiniana competition and special guests of the First APCO Freedom Ball. – ?
